Joseph Daniel Thomson
1947 – 2025
Joseph Daniel Thomson, 78, of Courtenay, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2025, surrounded by family.
Born 1947 in Comox, Joe took up an interest within the BC forest industry out of high school, taking a job to work on the green chain piling lumber at Fields Sawmill on the Courtenay River, then branching out on his own. He spent over 55 years running Thomson Bros. Lumber Co., a family sawmill, alongside his brother Robert (predeceased) and his two sons. Turning local timber into homes, furniture, and memories for the community, he remained operating actively in the Comox Valley until his passing. He took pride in every cut, knowing the scent of fresh wood and the hum of the saw blade like an old friend.
Joe is survived by his wife of 38 years, Chanh; children Casimir (Jillian) and William (Melissa); and grandchild Roslyn.
In lieu of flowers, please plant a tree that can be cut for future generations.

Robert Thomas Thomson
1954 – 2025
We are sad to announce that a long time member of our family firm, Robbie Thomson passed away on January 15, 2025. Born and raised in the Comox Valley, Rob had been involved with his brother, Joe, in Thomson Bros. Lumber Co. Ltd. since its inception in 1970 until ill health finally forced his retirement in 2023.
In his 53 years with our business, Rob worked at virtually all the production jobs in the sawmill at one time or another. Rob was also the ‘face’ of our business, since for many years he also handled most of our retail lumber sales. Very much a ‘people’ person, Rob built up a large clientele of long time lumber customers and made many friends in the process. He was well liked by all who knew him, and will be greatly missed by all.
Rob is survived by his two sons, Dan and Matt, his daughter Emily, brother Joe and nephews Casimir and William.
